Amanda Nunes will return to defend her 135-pound throne this summer.
A blockbuster matchup between the UFC’s reigning two-division women’s champion Nunes and former bantamweight titleholder Holly Holm has been verbally agreed upon for July 6 at UFC 239 live . MMA Fighting confirmed the news Wednesday following an initial report by ESPN. Nunes vs. Holm is expected to serve as the co-main event of the UFC’s International Fight Week pay-per-view underneath Jon Jones vs. Thiago Santos.
Nunes (17-4) is widely regarded as the No. 1-ranked pound-for-pound female fighter in the sport. The Brazilian champion has won eight consecutive fights en route to capturing titles in both the UFC’s bantamweight and featherweight divisions. Her streak is highlighted by victories over respected names such as Ronda RouseyMiesha TateValentina Shevchenko (x2), and Sara McMann. This past December, Nunes notched perhaps her most impressive win yet with a stunning 51-second knockout of Cris Cyborg.
Holm (12-4), on the other hand, rebounded in 2018 from a tough loss to Cyborg by picking up a unanimous decision victory over Megan Anderson at 145 pounds. A celebrated boxer who captured the UFC’s bantamweight belt in shocking fashion in 2015 with a thunderous knockout of Rousey, Holm bested Bethe Correia via third-round KO in her most recent outing at 135 pounds.

Jorge Masvidal, Ben Askren agree to meet at UFC 239 in Las Vegas

Ben Askren went all the way to London to witness UFC on ESPN+ 5’s welterweight clash between Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till and it seems the trip has paid off.
After stirring up trouble with both sides of the headliner, Askren (19-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) scored a meeting with the big winner, Masvidal (33-13 MMA, 10-6 UFC), at UFC 239 on July 6.
MMA Junkie confirmed with a person close to the booking that the fight has been verbally agreed to following an initial report from ESPN.com. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
Masvidal’s manager, Abraham Kawa, also seemed to confirm the news on Twitter, adding that Masvidal had asked to meet Askren even before the matchup with Till.

Jon Jones vs. Thiago Santos, Amanda Nunes vs. Holly Holm headlines UFC 239 in July Jon Jones will defend his light heavyweight title against Thiago Santos and Amanda Nunes will put her bantamweight belt up for grabs in a fight with Holly Holm as the two championship bouts headline UFC 239 in Las Vegas on July 6.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the fights to ESPN on Wednesday.
For Jones, this will be his third title fight inside seven months after returning last December and reclaiming the light heavyweight title with a TKO against Alexander Gustafsson.
Jones then defended his belt in March with a dominant showing against Anthony Smith. Now the longest reigning light heavyweight champion in UFC history will step back into the Octagon in July when he faces Santos at UFC 239.
Santos will get his first shot at UFC gold after enjoying a career resurgence since moving to 205 pounds. The veteran Brazilian knockout artist has impressed in his last few fights including wins over Jan Blachowicz, Jimi Manuwa and Eryk Anders.

Ngannou vs dos Santos slated for UFC 239

Francis Ngannou will fight Junior dos Santos in a heavyweight bout at UFC 239 in Las Vegas on July 6
Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is stepping into the Octagon against one-time title challenger Francis Ngannou at UFC 239 in July. MMA Fighting confirmed an initial report from ESPN on Friday evening.

The two heavy-handed pugilists were originally slated to square off at UFC 215 in September 2017 before a USADA violation forced dos Santos off of the card.
In terms of recent competition dos Santos (21-5) was last seen finishing Derrick Lewis with a second-round TKO at UFC Wichita earlier this month. Prior to this, he earned a decision win over former WSOF champion Blagoy Ivanov followed by a violent TKO over Tai Tuivasa.
To date, dos Santos has finished 16 of his 21 victories, including 15 by (T)KO.
Ngannou (13-3) is coming off a crippling 26-second knockout over former champion Cain Velasquez at UFC Phoenix in February. Prior to this, fans saw “The Predator” starch Curtis Blaydesin 45 seconds at UFC Beijing.
To date, Ngannou has finished all 13 of professional wins, including nine by (T)KO.
